Rochester, NY: Below is the 2013 Pre-championships Outdoor Watch List for the Trenton J. Jackson Award (High School Male Athlete of the Year).
The members of 10 person watch list come the four sections in the Niagara Association. Five members of the watch list come from Section 5, two each come from Sections 3 and 6. The final athlete comes from Section 4. Seven of the ten members of the also mentioned list come from Section 5
One athlete -- Brennan Root -- has the #1 performance in the US (3,000 meter steeplechase). Tyler Ranke had the former US #1 in the steeplechase but, due to the quality of the performers from this region, was only able to be on the Also Mentioned list. Keith Pease has the #1 performance in the 1600 meter run but when combined with converted mile performances is only #9. So, he is placed on the Also mentioned list.
There are six male athletes:
- Ryan Manahan (Marcellus) 800 meters;
- Desmond Mobley (Greece Olympia) long jump;
- Devon Patterson (Williamsville South) shot put;
- Brennan Root (Rush-Henrietta) steeplechase;
- Nick Ryan (Fayetteville-Manlius) Mile (1600 meters) and 3200 meters;
- Brian Smith (Greece Athena) 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash

The list of finalists for each of the annual awards will be announced in mid-July. The public vote on the finalists begins on 17 July 2013 and ends on 14 August 2013.
The award winners will be announced at the 2013 Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Awards Banquet, to be held on 07 September 2013 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center in Rochester, NY.
